We’ve all been there. Your friend’s baby shower is tomorrow, and time has completely gotten away from you. Even Amazon Prime’s two-day shipping can’t save you now. You have to go off-registry. What do you get with such little time? We’ve got you covered.
First and foremost, please realize that this mama has specifically picked items out for her baby for a reason. If at all possible, please get the items that were on her registry. However, we rarely register at brick-and-mortar shops anymore, and the stores we do register at, like Target and Walmart, don’t always carry the items in store. We understand that this can make last-minute shopping difficult, so we’ve compiled this list to help you out.
Zip-up sleepers - preferably the kind with the inverted zippers that make night time diaper changes much easier. Also consider getting a larger size, like 6-9 or 12 months.
Bibs and burp rags - mama and baby cannot have enough of these
Plain, white onesies and bloomers - these are such a staple and are definitely a must have in various sizes
Books - and books for all ages: baby, toddler, and even chapter books that will keep mom and dad intrigued.
Diapers and wipes - just please, buy the name brand if at all possible. Some babies are very sensitive. I know I ended up returning several diapers because my daughter would not wear them. Also consider buying diapers in the larger sizes, like 2s and 3s.
Shampoo and Lotion - baby will always need a bath, so this is a very safe bet. There are also so many brands that it can be intimidating for a first time parent to choose where to start. I know I appreciated receiving various shampoos and lotions.
Diaper cream - this is another item where mom and dad might want to try various brands, especially if they’re first time parents. Go ahead and get the diaper cream!
We also wanted to include a list of items to avoid purchasing.
Nursery decor - mamas typically have their baby’s nursery all planned out and color coordinated. It’s not that nursery decor wouldn’t be appreciated, it just more than likely won’t be put on display.
Bottles and pacifiers - if you are unable to purchase the bottles or pacifiers that are listed on the registry, please pass on this one.
Long-haired stuffed animals - ok yes, these are super cute, but babies love putting these stuffies in their mouths and, in turn, suck off all the hair. Consider getting short-haired stuffed animals instead.
At the end of the day, we know you want to shower your loved one’s little baby and support them in this new journey. All gifts are more than appreciated. You don’t have to take the time out of your day or the money out of your budget to show them how much you care, but you do. We know that you want to choose the most perfect, meaningful, and intentional gift possible, and we hope that this list helps.
